Work-place ramblings…; Corporate diaries #2
I know how excited you all are to read how my work place is. So here it goes….*drum roll*
For approximately 20 minutes of stepping into the office, I kept wondering how on earth I ended up there. I was in the office of an International Investment Bank, without ever even considering or applying to it.
For clarifying to everyone, I was put in the BFSI section of HCL Technologies, which stands for Business and Financial Services Industry. Believe it or not, most part of an IT company’s revenue comes from clients which are in the BFSI category, for the obvious reasons of them having extremely high quantity of money.
Fact time- You guys remember the time Lehman brothers ‘fell’ ? Yep, so Nomura bought it and right now I work in the office which used to be Lehman’s. That’s some modern-historical place I tell you.

Everything is revamped though. I have super-strong computer with dual monitor system, in which things magically open distributed among the 2 monitors and just intuitively perfect.
And another fact, computers are never switched off in the big companies. Yes, you heard that right. On the weekends they are restarted for maintenance though.
I also have a phone which I can use to call anywhere in the world. But obviously the most awesome part of the entire office experience are the cozy lounges on each floor, with couches and coffee machines and huge plasma tvs. First day I consumed 5 cups of espresso, without working a bit, well ‘cus its my learning time you know. Then there is also the super amazing cafeteria with lunch buffets for 10-20 bucks with almost 5-star like food, and a separate buffet for Salads and Soups.
There’s also a forest-themed roof top cafe and a fitness center which really made my eyes go O_O. I cannot wait to start working out there.
Did I mention the lifts have full network in them? Which is totally against concepts of physics, but okay I’m not complaining!
We use the RFID access cards to magically open huge wooden doors which look like classic mansion doors, but opens with the flashing of a card.
Did you know you are not supposed to call people ‘SIR’/’Mam’ in the office? Only first name. Weird/cool.
Okay, I still can’t get over the fact of the free coffee. There’s cappuccino and espresso and tea, all from laVazza. Hey, in my defense, I have spent gazillions of rupees on Coffee in the past few years, so this is pretty cool.
And about what work I do- I am in the Global Reporting team, which is a part of the BIS(Business Intelligence Systems) part of Nomura.
The things our team makes helps the upper level management in decision making and problem solving. So I’d say its a pretty important work eh?
Anyway, everything is going just right, as one would expect to be. But adulthood is way way wayyy lesser reaffirming than your childhood. Everything good keeps you wondering what’s the catch? And everything bad makes you hopeful about the brighter tomorrow. It really is helplessly depressing I tell you- Understanding that is.
But well, I am 21, a fresh fruit in the humble Garden of Eden.
.
.
Yes, that metaphor was really not necessary.
Anyway, time to take off now.

PS: In other random rambling, I am very sorry to criticize this, but seriously, “HUSH PUPPIES” is NOT a name you keep for a leather shoes brand. Na-Uh. Unless of course if you are making the shoes out of young, cute, and amazing puppies, in which case someone should really come and make a shoe out of YOU, and then hit the remember you with that SHOE, and then fill you up in that shoe and sell it as “Hush Humans”.
